The lights are on the girls who stand on stage. Lavishly dressed, with the most grand gowns and exquisite tiaras resting on top of their elaborately styled hair. They look flawless, as they wait for the judges to announce the winner. A shout of cheers goes up as one of the girls win. The other contestants smile, but deep inside, they feel insecure and imperfect. Hi there! Today's post will be about beauty pageants. I was just thinking about this the other day, when the Miss Universe 2015 mishap happened, you can see what happened in the video below, if you haven't already heard about it. Basically what happened is that the host announced that Miss Columbia was the winner, and she was crowned and given the bouquet. After that the host, Steve Harvey returns and says that he made a mistake, it turns out that Miss Philippines was actually the winner. So it got me thinking, and I realized the many negative sides of beauty pageants. That's why I will be telling you why I do not like beauty pageants. (After this short joke to amuse you.) Let's start with money and prizes. To win a sensible beauty pageant, you will need some really nice clothes, a professional hair dresser, a qualified makeup artist, the list goes on. I'm not saying that this is all that matters, but do you really think you would win if you look like this? Because believe it or not, beauty matters in a beauty pageant! So imagine all the money that would cost. Probably thousands. If you win, you do get a reasonable prize, but probably not as much as how much you spent. If you don't win, that congratulations, because you'll probably be broke.
Another reason I don't like beauty pageants is because it makes people feel insecure and set limits, expectations for themselves. Not everyone does this, but a lot of people do. For example, if you see a stunningly gorgeous girl in a beauty pageant, who is very very thin, has flawless hair and skin and is generally really pretty, you might feel bad that you're not as good as them, or you might try and become like them, This leads to depression, anorexia, and probably even worse things. You can't ignore the fact that beauty pageants are literally shows that judge people on how pretty they look. they make people want to be only beautiful on the outside, and they forget about beauty on the inside, like kindness, responsibility, honesty. There are lots of beauty pageants for girls who are barely toddlers. This just encourages them to become beauty-obsessed barbie dolls as they grow up. I know that beauty pageant standards have changed. They used to be about putting on a fancy dress, being thin, painting a fake smile on your face and strutting on stage. But now beauty pageants award contestants who are pretty, quick witted and have good qualities. This said, I still think that beauty pageants judge girls. And you know how everyone says don't judge people? This is basically what they're doing. Competitions like The Voice, Dance Fever, etc. award people with talent, and I think that should be encouraged. Beauty is not exactly a talent. My conclusion is that people don't need competitions and shows and judges to tell them they're pretty, smart or nice. We have friends for that. Every person in the world should know that they are beautiful, it doesn't matter if they don't how it on the outside. Remember, everyone is beautiful. If you have a different opinion, I totally respect that. Let's finish this post on a good note, anyway.

ATTENTION! Pray for Paris! The horrible incident that happened is tragic news and let's hope that Paris can stay strong and get through this! Paris has turned of its lights as the Eiffel Tower goes dark in memory of the terror victims. Remember, "When the city of light goes dark, The rest of the world lights up for them." (I might do a post on this next time.) So I've been looking at a few Zodiac signs, so I've decided to share it with you! First of all, what is a zodiac sign? Zodiac is basically a circle of constellations. They are: Aries (March 21 - April 19) Taurus (Apr 20 - May 20) Gemini (May 21 - Jun 20) Cancer (Jun 21 - Jul 22) Leo (Jul 23 - Aug 22) Virgo (Aug 23 - Sep 22) Libra (Sep 22 - Oct 23) Scorpio (Oct 23 - Nov 21) Sagittarius (Nov 22 - Dec 21) Capricorn (Dec 22 - Jan 19) Aquarius (Jan 19 - Feb 20) Pisces (Feb 20 - March 18) Born under different constellations means a different personality and different traits. For example, here are keywords to describe each star sign. Aries - Independent, Taurus - Determined, Gemini - Intelligent, Cancer - Emotional, Leo - Loyal, Virgo - Organized, Libra - Pleasant, Scorpio - Charismatic, Sagittarius - Optimistic, Capricorn - Responsible, Aquarius - Friendly, Pisces - Sensitive. Obviously, I can't state the complete description for every zodiac sign, but if you want to know more about your sign, visit this.... http://zodiac-signs-astrology.com/ Plus, there seems to be a change in the whole astrology chart. There is a new star sign, Ophiuchus. This means that your star sign will change completely. Some people agree with this, but some people don't. http://zap2it.com/2011/01/ophiuchus-new-zodiac-sign-dates-and-your-real-astrological-sign/ My OPINION:- I think Zodiac signs can be partially accurate at times, but I don't completely believe in horoscopes and astrology. If you'd like, you can read them, but don't live your whole life reading zodiac signs and believing in them. I don't believe that the position of the stars can determine your personality. So what do you think? Is astrology believable or not? What's your star sign? Joke of the day QUOTE OF THE DAY! <3
Hi! This post is the continuation of one of my old blog posts, Pollution Problems. If you haven't read it yet, here's the link: http://thevioletblogger.weebly.com/pollution-problems Global Warming. Have you ever thought of that word? It's because we horrible, nasty humans pollute the earth, and so far, there is a great big hole in the ozone layer over Antarctica. Can we do something to stop Global Warming before the ozone layer is gone completely? Everything you do, even the smallest things, can make a big difference to Global Warming. So what can you do? Reduce, reuse, recycle Use water efficiently Give your car a break and use Public Transportation, a bike, or walk. Explore climate science and solutions Spread the word. Find out more about what you can do to reduce pollution and make our earth a GREEN PLANET! Pollution, as you know, is a problem, quite a big problem. But what have you done to stop it? Nothing? Well, visit the following link. It's a cool website and I recommend that you check it out.
http://www.breathingearth.net/ If you look at the key, you will notice that when a country glows red, it is currently emitting 1000 tonnes of CO2. The ones that glow most frequently are America, China, Russia and India. Looking at the bottom right corner of the page, you see how many tonnes of Carbon Dioxide have been emitted since you have started watching. Just taking a look at that, you see that the world has been emitting a huge amount of CO2. What can you do to help? Lots of things! One little action that helps keep the environment clean can make quite a difference. So go and put that can in the recycling bin or join the neighbourhood environmental organization. Remember, every little thing that you do makes a difference. So make it a good difference. Look out for more pollution posts and a PPT on pollution that will be posted here. Who knows, maybe you could spot a pollution poem by me. |
