The lights are on the girls who stand on stage. Lavishly dressed, with the most grand gowns and exquisite tiaras resting on top of their elaborately styled hair. They look flawless, as they wait for the judges to announce the winner. A shout of cheers goes up as one of the girls win. The other contestants smile, but deep inside, they feel insecure and imperfect. Hi there! Today's post will be about beauty pageants. I was just thinking about this the other day, when the Miss Universe 2015 mishap happened, you can see what happened in the video below, if you haven't already heard about it. Basically what happened is that the host announced that Miss Columbia was the winner, and she was crowned and given the bouquet. After that the host, Steve Harvey returns and says that he made a mistake, it turns out that Miss Philippines was actually the winner. So it got me thinking, and I realized the many negative sides of beauty pageants. That's why I will be telling you why I do not like beauty pageants. (After this short joke to amuse you.) Let's start with money and prizes. To win a sensible beauty pageant, you will need some really nice clothes, a professional hair dresser, a qualified makeup artist, the list goes on. I'm not saying that this is all that matters, but do you really think you would win if you look like this? Because believe it or not, beauty matters in a beauty pageant! So imagine all the money that would cost. Probably thousands. If you win, you do get a reasonable prize, but probably not as much as how much you spent. If you don't win, that congratulations, because you'll probably be broke.
Another reason I don't like beauty pageants is because it makes people feel insecure and set limits, expectations for themselves. Not everyone does this, but a lot of people do. For example, if you see a stunningly gorgeous girl in a beauty pageant, who is very very thin, has flawless hair and skin and is generally really pretty, you might feel bad that you're not as good as them, or you might try and become like them, This leads to depression, anorexia, and probably even worse things. You can't ignore the fact that beauty pageants are literally shows that judge people on how pretty they look. they make people want to be only beautiful on the outside, and they forget about beauty on the inside, like kindness, responsibility, honesty. There are lots of beauty pageants for girls who are barely toddlers. This just encourages them to become beauty-obsessed barbie dolls as they grow up. I know that beauty pageant standards have changed. They used to be about putting on a fancy dress, being thin, painting a fake smile on your face and strutting on stage. But now beauty pageants award contestants who are pretty, quick witted and have good qualities. This said, I still think that beauty pageants judge girls. And you know how everyone says don't judge people? This is basically what they're doing. Competitions like The Voice, Dance Fever, etc. award people with talent, and I think that should be encouraged. Beauty is not exactly a talent. My conclusion is that people don't need competitions and shows and judges to tell them they're pretty, smart or nice. We have friends for that. Every person in the world should know that they are beautiful, it doesn't matter if they don't how it on the outside. Remember, everyone is beautiful. If you have a different opinion, I totally respect that. Let's finish this post on a good note, anyway.

Everyone loves Christmas, people from all around the world. The merry festival with Santa Claus and held on December 25th... except for in Ethiopia, because they celebrate it on January the 7th, eating thick, spicy wat. Wait, what does that even mean?
They celebrate Christmas on the seventh day of January because they follow the Julian Calendar, Not the Georgian Calendar like us. Most Ethiopians fast on the day before Christmas and celebrate it the next day, January 7th. They also eat wat. What's wat? A stew with meat, veggies and eggs! Mexicans, who have Christmas from the December 12th to January 6th, also play with pinatas. They are paper-mache objects hung from ceilings and they are filled with candy. The children furiously bash them with a stick while they are blindfolded. When it breaks, all the kids rush to pick up the treats. Hungary calls their Christmas Eve Szent-este, and spend the whole evening decorating their tree. They also sometimes do it without their kids, so they can tell them that the angels decorated it. St. Nicholas visits on the sixth of December. Hungarian kids leave their shows out on the windowsill so he can come and fill it up with sweets! You know what, Christmas sounds really exciting in some countries. I wish I could experience it there! Buying a gift and slapping a bow on it is not very special. If you really care about someone, you should put effort in to making it unique for the person. Confused? Don't be, here are some tips. Special Message Write a heartfelt note on your gift. For example, if you are giving all your closest friends a similar present, write a different note or message saying how much you care about them and why you like being their friend. Everyone likes knowing how much they are loved. Make a Card Better than just handing somebody a gift and a store-bought card, it might mean more to them if you take the time to make a hand-made card. So grab some markers and make a really pretty card. Don't just scribble a greeting and throw some glitter on it, because that just shows that you didn't take the time to make it extravagant. Make a Gift You know that somebody really loves you if they give you a present that they made themselves. Search through the internet to find ideas, like painted mugs or coupon booklets. I mean, you can put a small piece of jewelry in an origami box, and it'll really be special. So have a great Christmas, and make sure you show everyone how much they mean to you and spread the Christmas Cheer with these presents. The first day of Blog-Mas! Today's post idea was: Other Celebrations during Christmas Season. Near December, these festivities are not as popular as Christmas. Whenever you think of December, the first thing that comes to your mind is probably Christmas. But let's take a look at some other celebrations. 1. Hanukkah This is a Jewish Holiday, and takes place between the 6th of December and the 14th of December. It's known as the festival of lights and the festival of dedication. Since there are nine days, a nine-branched candelabrum called a hanukiah or a menorah is lit; one for each day. The menorah is usually a candelabrum with four branches on each side, and the ninth given special importance, usually higher or below the rest. During Hanukkah, Jews usually play dreidel and eating foods like doughnuts and latkes. 2. Kwanzaa It is a week long holiday usually observed in the United States by people of African-American origin. Starting on the 26th of December and ending on the first of January, the celebration is named after the Swahili phrase matunda ya kwanza, meaning "first fruits of the harvest." During Kwanzaa a special candle holder called a Kinara is used. A Kinara consists of seven candles, three red ones on the left, three green ones on the right with a black candle in the center. Each night during Kwanzaa a candle is lit. The black, center candle is lit first. This is similar to the lighting of the menorah in the Jewish Festival of Lights, Hanukkah. 3. Saturnalia A very little known Ancient Roman tradition, Saturnalia is held in honour of the deity Saturn. It's held from 17th December to the 23rd, as a predecessor to Christmas. It follows the Julian Calendar, which is similar to the Gregorian Calendar we use except for slight differences. They usually celebrate this with a sacrifice at the Temple of Saturn, a banquet, gift giving, and of course, partying continuously.
So this was a quick, short, very informational post! So you see, there's so many more celebrations than just Christmas. Ever think of celebrating some of these? There are even more, so you can do a little bit of research and find out if you want.
It's human nature to enjoy paradoxes. That's why I am going to give you some perplexing paradoxes that will baffle you. 5. Paradox of Court A lawyer is taught by a teacher. After he finishes his training, the teacher says to him- "You will pay me after you have won your first case." However, the lawyer refuses. The teacher is furious and decides to take the matter to court. If the lawyer wins the case, that means he will not have to pay. But he has to pay when he wins his first case, so technically, he is obliged to pay. If the teacher wins, he will have to pay, but since he is only supposed to pay after he WINS his first case, so he doesn't have to pay, right? Contradictory Question: Will the lawyer pay or not? 4. Ship of Theseus You have a ship consisting of 100 planks of wood. Every year, you remove one old plank and replace it with a new plank. You store the old planks in a store house. Eventually, all the 100 planks of wood have been replaced. (Don't ask how you have managed to survive for 100 years.) So then, you decide to build a boat using the old planks of wood. Contradictory Question: Which is the original boat? Get ready for your brain to perish. 3. Omnipotence Paradox So, an omnipotent being is something that can do anything. Literally. So imagine that an omnipotent being creates a boulder which is so heavy that nobody can pick it up. So he would also not be able to pick it up. But then he can't be an omnipotent being. But if he can pick up the boulder, then he wouldn't have been able to create a boulder that nobody can pick up, so again, he is not an omnipotent being. Contradictory Question: Can he pick it up or not? 2. Paradox of the Heap Let's say you have a heap of sand, and to be exact, exactly 1000 grains. Now you extract one grain of sand. Now you have 999 grains of sand. So it is still a heap, right? So by this logic, if you take out one grain of sand from a heap, it will still be a heap. So you patiently take out each individual grain of sand until you have one grain left. So here's the question. Contradictory Question: Does one grain of sand constitute as a heap or is there no such thing as a heap at all? 1. The Grandfather Paradox This is a popular one. Say you travel back in time and kill your grandfather before he met your grandmother. That would mean that you wouldn't be alive so you couldn't kill him in the first place, but if he is alive that means that you are alive, so you could kill him. Contradictory Question: What happens if you kill your grandfather? So did these paradoxes blow your mind? If you didn't get them, search the name of the paradox for a clearer definition. Quote of the day Joke of the day "The biggest attack on Paris since WWII."
Hi readers! I know you might think it's a bit late to post about this, since it's a week since it happened. Anyway, the Paris Attack that happened on Friday the 13th (Is that just a coincidence?) that killed 129 people and injured as many has been plastered over all the newspapers and news channels lately and as they find out more information, they get closer to finding the culprits. Well here's my opinion on the whole thing: I don't think that they should focus on the people who did it. Of course, the number of lives they've taken and the amount of damage they caused is horrid, and they deserve an awful punishment, but I feel like they should pay more attention to building up Paris again, helping it back up on to it's feet. The six attacks have cost Paris a lot, and even though every nation is standing by France, it will take some time for it to recover. So what do you think about this? What actions should be taken? Quote of the Day Joke of the day Hey there, fellow readers, writers and friends. I apologize for not blogging for a while, since I was busy with going back to school!
Anyway, I've done a bit of research and I have found a few conspiracy theories that you must know about. Then tell me if you agree with them. :) 1. The Apollo Moon Landing Hoax In 1978, a movie was released and it was called Capricorn 1. It's about how NASA and American Astronauts faked the Apollo Moon Landing. Intersting, isn't it? But the story doesn't end here. Hundred pounds of moon rocks have been studied and investigated and are classified as 'extraterrestrial.' So this abviously means that NASA had retrieved these from the moon. In fact, a lot of these astronauts are offended because of the conspiracy theorists that insist that the landing was a fake. In 2002, when a conspiracy theorist called Bart Sibrel confronted Buzz Aldrin and called him a "coward and a liar" for faking the moon landings, the 72-year-old astronaut punched Sibrel in the jaw. Talk about tough! But everything isn't as it seems. There could be more to this theory... Visit these links to find out more about this strange theory. http://www.dazeddigital.com/artsandculture/article/20885/1/today-marks-the-45th-anniversary-of-the-moon-landing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8ZzFemBUJQ 2. Paul McCartney's Death It is said that the Beatles were a famous group. But could it be true that the Beatles Member Paul McCartney died in a car crash and was replaced by a doppleganger? Here is some evidence. But really, it depends on what you choose to believe... The Abbey Road album cover started oh-so many conspiracy theories, but the fact that Paul is pictured without his shoes on is often used as 'evidence' that he was dead at the time Abbey Road was released (in 1969) and was replaced by a look-alike. Not the type of 'evidence' that stands up in a court of law, mind you. Google 'Is Paul McCartney dead?' to find more answers. 3. Shakespeare didn't exist Shakespeare, it's become a household name. But the most famous playwright in the world might not have existed at all. Conspiracy theorists have been arguing over Shakespeare's life for years, arguing that William Shakespeare was just a pen name used by a group of writers, which might explain why his signature varied throughout his career. Others think that he did exist, but that he was simply a name for another person to write plays through, such as Christopher Marlowe, Sir Francis Bacon, or Queen Elizabeth I. The main argument against Shakespeare is the fact that he was uneducated, which seems rather unbelieveable, if you ask me. But all I have to say in this theory is that whether Shakespeare really did write all those plays or not, they were some pretty good ones. Not to mention he invented some of the most frequently used words ever! Go grab a piece of paper and write down the colour of the dress in the image in the left, and then click read more. Simple, isn't it? Or so you think...
The man stepped inside what looked like a telephone booth. He pushed a button and there was a tremendous ZAP! A bolt of lightning split the sky into two, even though it was ten o' clock in the morning. The telephone booth disappeared.
