The lights are on the girls who stand on stage. Lavishly dressed, with the most grand gowns and exquisite tiaras resting on top of their elaborately styled hair. They look flawless, as they wait for the judges to announce the winner. A shout of cheers goes up as one of the girls win. The other contestants smile, but deep inside, they feel insecure and imperfect. Hi there! Today's post will be about beauty pageants. I was just thinking about this the other day, when the Miss Universe 2015 mishap happened, you can see what happened in the video below, if you haven't already heard about it. Basically what happened is that the host announced that Miss Columbia was the winner, and she was crowned and given the bouquet. After that the host, Steve Harvey returns and says that he made a mistake, it turns out that Miss Philippines was actually the winner. So it got me thinking, and I realized the many negative sides of beauty pageants. That's why I will be telling you why I do not like beauty pageants. (After this short joke to amuse you.) Let's start with money and prizes. To win a sensible beauty pageant, you will need some really nice clothes, a professional hair dresser, a qualified makeup artist, the list goes on. I'm not saying that this is all that matters, but do you really think you would win if you look like this? Because believe it or not, beauty matters in a beauty pageant! So imagine all the money that would cost. Probably thousands. If you win, you do get a reasonable prize, but probably not as much as how much you spent. If you don't win, that congratulations, because you'll probably be broke.
Another reason I don't like beauty pageants is because it makes people feel insecure and set limits, expectations for themselves. Not everyone does this, but a lot of people do. For example, if you see a stunningly gorgeous girl in a beauty pageant, who is very very thin, has flawless hair and skin and is generally really pretty, you might feel bad that you're not as good as them, or you might try and become like them, This leads to depression, anorexia, and probably even worse things. You can't ignore the fact that beauty pageants are literally shows that judge people on how pretty they look. they make people want to be only beautiful on the outside, and they forget about beauty on the inside, like kindness, responsibility, honesty. There are lots of beauty pageants for girls who are barely toddlers. This just encourages them to become beauty-obsessed barbie dolls as they grow up. I know that beauty pageant standards have changed. They used to be about putting on a fancy dress, being thin, painting a fake smile on your face and strutting on stage. But now beauty pageants award contestants who are pretty, quick witted and have good qualities. This said, I still think that beauty pageants judge girls. And you know how everyone says don't judge people? This is basically what they're doing. Competitions like The Voice, Dance Fever, etc. award people with talent, and I think that should be encouraged. Beauty is not exactly a talent. My conclusion is that people don't need competitions and shows and judges to tell them they're pretty, smart or nice. We have friends for that. Every person in the world should know that they are beautiful, it doesn't matter if they don't how it on the outside. Remember, everyone is beautiful. If you have a different opinion, I totally respect that. Let's finish this post on a good note, anyway.

The Hunger Games is a book everyone has been raving about. If you've watched the movie or read the book, you'll know what I mean when I say that this was an OUTSTANDING book and while I enjoyed the movie, I'll have to say the book was much better and Suzanne Collins is a really talented author.
Grade: A It was an extraordinary book. Full stop. There's nothing more I can say. The story was so well written that I felt like I was living in it. The characters were really well illustrated and it had just enough humour, just enough action, and a lot of thrill. I also love how they had such a sad part that almost moved me to tears. I think my favourite thing about the book would be the main her character, Katniss Everdeen. She has a strong personality and isn't afraid to take charge, but she isn't perfect either. So overall, go to your nearest bookstore, grab a copy and START READING. You will not be disappointed, I promise. Joke of the Day Quote of the Day "The biggest attack on Paris since WWII."
Hi readers! I know you might think it's a bit late to post about this, since it's a week since it happened. Anyway, the Paris Attack that happened on Friday the 13th (Is that just a coincidence?) that killed 129 people and injured as many has been plastered over all the newspapers and news channels lately and as they find out more information, they get closer to finding the culprits. Well here's my opinion on the whole thing: I don't think that they should focus on the people who did it. Of course, the number of lives they've taken and the amount of damage they caused is horrid, and they deserve an awful punishment, but I feel like they should pay more attention to building up Paris again, helping it back up on to it's feet. The six attacks have cost Paris a lot, and even though every nation is standing by France, it will take some time for it to recover. So what do you think about this? What actions should be taken? Quote of the Day Joke of the day Today I have a guest post by Noor from A Little Bit Of Sunshine!
*applause* Visit her super fantastic blog:- http://www.alittlebitofsunshineblog.com/ Hello readers of the Violet Blogger! I’m Noor from A Little Bit of Sunshine and I’m so happy to be here today on this fabulous blog! Today, I’m going to be sharing with you a little writing encouragement post. I am a writer, and I am currently during NaNoWrimo where you have to write 50,000 words in the month of November, which is a lot. I’m here to help motivate you to keep writing your story, even though you might hate it because “Best advice on writing I’ve ever received: FINISH.” -Peter Mayl. When I write, I get stuck. Like really stuck. And then I go back and look over my writing, and I loathe it. And I want to delete it all. That is a major don’t. Never ever look back on your writing unless you are editing. And don’t edit while you write, because that slows down the process, a lot. What you are writing may suck right now, but leave that for the editor you to worry about. The writer you needs to finish this book. Finishing a book is an amazing feeling. I’ve written a book. It was 30,000 words long and really bad but it was a book. You put your hard work and effort into that book, even if the plot is horrible. You created something, you worked hard enough and pushed yourself hard enough. That takes guts, that takes patience. You can learn from finishing a book and editing it. You can learn things you did wrong, for your next book. And don’t tell me there won’t be a next book, because there will be. Writing is a drug, it sucks you in and takes you to another world, you need it, once you start, you will never stop. But remember, don’t rush through your book. Take your time (unless you have to write 50,000 words in a month, then don’t take your time.), feel the passion in the book. If you don’t want to write, don’t write, because chances are your writing will not have that passion either. Think about what’s it going to feel like once you have finished that book, and how proud you’re going to feel. Think about how thrilled you’ll be when you type that last word, and close your computer, sighing in relief. Think about that, and then keep on writing, so you’ll be able to achieve that. I have no documents in my “Ditched” folder on my computer, and I’m proud of that. Every writer should aim for that, because it’s important. Keep writing everyone, I believe in you. ~Noor Thank you so much for the amazing post! :) ATTENTION! Pray for Paris! The horrible incident that happened is tragic news and let's hope that Paris can stay strong and get through this! Paris has turned of its lights as the Eiffel Tower goes dark in memory of the terror victims. Remember, "When the city of light goes dark, The rest of the world lights up for them." (I might do a post on this next time.) So I've been looking at a few Zodiac signs, so I've decided to share it with you! First of all, what is a zodiac sign? Zodiac is basically a circle of constellations. They are: Aries (March 21 - April 19) Taurus (Apr 20 - May 20) Gemini (May 21 - Jun 20) Cancer (Jun 21 - Jul 22) Leo (Jul 23 - Aug 22) Virgo (Aug 23 - Sep 22) Libra (Sep 22 - Oct 23) Scorpio (Oct 23 - Nov 21) Sagittarius (Nov 22 - Dec 21) Capricorn (Dec 22 - Jan 19) Aquarius (Jan 19 - Feb 20) Pisces (Feb 20 - March 18) Born under different constellations means a different personality and different traits. For example, here are keywords to describe each star sign. Aries - Independent, Taurus - Determined, Gemini - Intelligent, Cancer - Emotional, Leo - Loyal, Virgo - Organized, Libra - Pleasant, Scorpio - Charismatic, Sagittarius - Optimistic, Capricorn - Responsible, Aquarius - Friendly, Pisces - Sensitive. Obviously, I can't state the complete description for every zodiac sign, but if you want to know more about your sign, visit this.... http://zodiac-signs-astrology.com/ Plus, there seems to be a change in the whole astrology chart. There is a new star sign, Ophiuchus. This means that your star sign will change completely. Some people agree with this, but some people don't. http://zap2it.com/2011/01/ophiuchus-new-zodiac-sign-dates-and-your-real-astrological-sign/ My OPINION:- I think Zodiac signs can be partially accurate at times, but I don't completely believe in horoscopes and astrology. If you'd like, you can read them, but don't live your whole life reading zodiac signs and believing in them. I don't believe that the position of the stars can determine your personality. So what do you think? Is astrology believable or not? What's your star sign? Joke of the day QUOTE OF THE DAY! <3
Seen this before? It's from the movie Inception! Have you watched it? I watched it last week and I was mesmerized by it. Grade: B Inception was a great movie, which had a deep plot and a stupefying message. But like any other movie, it had its flaws. The beginning of the movie was boring, and didn't really catch my attention. After that, it started getting interesting and the movie eventually started building up. I was at the edge of my seat at the climax and I loved how director Christopher Nolan ended the movie. SPOILER ALERT! The end of the movie is so perfect and confusing, it leaves you staring at the screen with your mouth hanging open. Joke of the day Quote of the day
The feeling you get when you open a new book, taking in the musty, papery smell, your eyes following the words as they dance across the page is indescribably marvelous. It happens every time I open a book. How do you feel when you open a book? Here are some of my recommendations. These books are intriguing and I can't stop reading them. A Series of Unfortunate Events This series of stories by Lemony Snicket is quite mysterious, yet it's hard to put it down once you start reading. The series follow the lives of the Baudelaire orphans, Violet, Klaus and Sunny. The adventures they encounter are unpredictable and fascinating, so make sure you try it. The books always have miserable endings, which is why I recommend it to people who loathe the usual 'happily ever after.' Kensuke's Kingdom This original story by Michael Morpurgo really touched me. It's about a young boy called Michael, who gets stranded on an island, only to find that a Japanese man called Kensuke lives there. They both get along as they learn to survive together. I don't want to ruin the ending for you, but it was an amazingly written story. Michael Morpurgo's other stories are some of my favourites too, like Mr. Skip and Kaspar the Prince of Cats. The Star of Kazan Eva Ibbotson's book was one that enjoyed reading the first time and loved reading again and again. The book describes the like of Annika, an foundling who lives in Vienna with servants Ellie and Sigrid who work for three professors. Annika has always dreamed about her mother, so when an aristocrat arrives on the doorstep and claims Annika as her daughter, she is overjoyed. But this book has quite an unexpected ending, and I think you should give it a try. That's all for now, but if you know any interesting books, make sure to comment below! The man stepped inside what looked like a telephone booth. He pushed a button and there was a tremendous ZAP! A bolt of lightning split the sky into two, even though it was ten o' clock in the morning. The telephone booth disappeared.
It had landed in England, centuries ago.. Happy New Year, dear readers! It's a new year, with a fresh start. Sorry, I haven't been blogging for a while. For one thing, school re-opens for me tomorrow! I've been busy preparing for a new term. Anyway, today I decided to tell you about the 5 people who have really inspired me, and that I admire. I hope it doesn't bore you!
5. Malala Yousafzai For a young woman of 17, Malala has done some pretty amazing things. She was the youngest person to ever win the Nobel Prize and she has been fighting for education since she was 9. She's written a autobiography, called 'I am Malala'. Here's a link with more information. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-23241937 4. Bill Gates I'm sure you must have heard of one of the richest men in the world! Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, has done so much that makes me admire him. He started the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and he has an awesome blog! Visit his Wikipedia page and blog. http://www.gatesnotes.com/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Gates 3. Jaqueline Wilson She's an amazing writer, and the way she writes has inspired me. The words that she use are extraordinary, and I hope to be a writer as good as her some day. You should really check out some of her book, they are so cool! Here's her Wikipedia page. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacqueline_Wilson 2. Albert Einstein This scientist is one that has inspired me, since he never gave up. He achieved so many great things, even though he had a bad start in life, as people though he was unintelligent. Check out his Wikipedia page for more info. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Einstein 1. Roald Dahl This author is truly amazing, and I love his stories, because they are so imaginative, creative and original. He is good at playing around with his words and all his work has inspired me to be an author like that one day. If you want more info, click on this link, it will take you to his Wikipedia page. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roald_Dahl And that's all. These people have done some really amazing things in life. Who are the people you admire? Feel free to post in the comments below! I really hope you like this post as much as I enjoyed writing it! Hello there, fellow readers! I apologize for not being able to blog for almost an eternity! I've just been really busy but I have an awesome post for you guys to read. But first, let me take a selfie!
Selfies... have you ever realized how many selfies people take a day? Research shows that selfies are actually the worst! How many selfies do you take everyday? One thing is that people can find selfie extremely annoying. Would you like to hang out with someone who would whip out their phone every few seconds to take a selfie? Yeah, that's what I thought. People take selfies to brag and show off things like 'new designer clothes' or 'fabulous new shoes' . I would find that pretty annoying and if you do that, people wouldn't really like you much. So when taking selfies, it's better to stick with 'hanging out with my friends!' or something. Did you know that selfies are so very dangerous too? there was a schoolgirl called Isabella Fracchiolla who almost fell to her death on jagged rocks while taking a selfie. Next time you are posing for a silly selfie, make sure you watch where you are going... Have you ever realized that when people post all sorts of weird selfies on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and those other popular social media websites, it can be viewed by trillions of different people like friends, family, co-workers, teachers etc., and they all migh6 have different opinions about you by just looking at your selfies. You don't want to create a bad image for yourself, do you? Also, I'm not trying to offend selfies because I really like taking selfies too and they're cool. Anyway, Happy Holidays and I'll see you later! |
