Did you know that 73% of people who create New Year's resolutions GIVE UP?
Don't be one of them. Your list most probably looks more or less like this:
If one of your resolutions are similar or exactly same as what's written above, you should consider tweaking it a bit. Here is how you can make good resolutions for yourself that you will stick to, depending on your determination and will to do it.
Buying a gift and slapping a bow on it is not very special. If you really care about someone, you should put effort in to making it unique for the person. Confused? Don't be, here are some tips. Special Message Write a heartfelt note on your gift. For example, if you are giving all your closest friends a similar present, write a different note or message saying how much you care about them and why you like being their friend. Everyone likes knowing how much they are loved. Make a Card Better than just handing somebody a gift and a store-bought card, it might mean more to them if you take the time to make a hand-made card. So grab some markers and make a really pretty card. Don't just scribble a greeting and throw some glitter on it, because that just shows that you didn't take the time to make it extravagant. Make a Gift You know that somebody really loves you if they give you a present that they made themselves. Search through the internet to find ideas, like painted mugs or coupon booklets. I mean, you can put a small piece of jewelry in an origami box, and it'll really be special. So have a great Christmas, and make sure you show everyone how much they mean to you and spread the Christmas Cheer with these presents. I know what you're thinking: "I'm to lazy to click on this. I'll read it later." "It takes so long to open this post! Maybe another time." "Ugh, I'm to tired to read this right now. I'll read it tomorrow. STOP! That is procrastination, in case you didn't realise yet. Putting something off to do later. Take out the trash. You: Yeah, I'll do it in five minutes. Make your bed. You: Let me just finish this. *watches television for an hour* Write a blog post. Me: Can I do it tomorrow? That's right, you know you are guilty of procrastinating. I understand, but you know that you won't be productive if you keep on procrastinating. Here are some tips. (Once, I was assigned a lot of homework. And even worse, it was math. What I did was try to have fun, try to get it done as fast I can and every I wanted to get up and leave, I looked at a list of reasons why I have to complete my homework and I found funny motivational pictures on the internet, but didn't get too carried away with it.) Tip 1: Two Minute Tasks Maybe things like homework and washing dishes needs a little more motivation. But simple tasks that barely take two minutes is not going to hurt you. Can't you pause the video to wipe crumbs off the table? Or tear your eyes away from your screen just to take something and put it back where it belongs? Every time someone asks you to do something like this, don't complain, just take a deep breath, remember this rule, and do it. Tip 2: Prioritize Alright, maybe some work you have to do is lying on the table right now, and it's due tomorrow, but you just really want to watch your favourite show. And don't forget the essay that's due next week. Or the project that has to be submitted in a month. This is probably what's going on your mind. "I have to do my homework. It's due tomorrow. But my show! How could I miss it? But then there's that essay! Oh, it's too much work. I'd rather do it right before I go to bed, or tomorrow morning." But think about it. Wouldn't it be better to maybe finish your homework, start a bit of work on the essay and then watch your show? You need to do things according to which is most important right now. Tip 3: Rewards and Consequences Have a project due but you are hesitant to do it? Reward yourself with a snack or five minutes to do whatever you want when you finish a bit of the work. Finally, when you finish the whole thing, pat yourself on the back and help yourself to watching a movie or some leisure time. But that might not work on everyone. So you could try and think about the consequences. What happens if you don't finish it? If it's school work, you could get punished, scolded or something else. If it helps, write down a list, and every time you don't feel like continuing, look at the list, sigh sadly and continue. Tip 4: Stop, Drop and Work Follow these instructions. Set an alarm for five minutes. (You might be tempted to set it longer.)Then do whatever you'd like, eat, play, read, chat. When it rings, stop, drop and start working. (I mean drop whatever you're doing) You've had your relaxation time, now it's time to put on your boots and get working. Tip 5: Multitask Want to watch the latest episode of a show but need to write an essay? Do both at the same time. Although this not the best advice, and lots of people find it hard to multitask, some people benefit from this. The main rule is: You have to get your homework done. No. Matter. What. Although, don't use this tip if you are studying. Only for things that don't require too much attention and aren't too important. So, I have to admit that I do procrastinate, and sometimes don't follow the first rule. But I guess I will try now. I can't stand being a hypocrite. Note: I wrote half of this post, then my laptop glitched and all my work was gone. I was planning on just rewriting it later, but then I said- "How ironic." Quote of the Day Joke of the day Link of the Day: http://smallnotebook.org/2010/03/08/31-things-you-can-do-in-1-minute-or-less/
Troubled? Stressed? Worried? A new study suggests people are happier when they take time to appreciate the good things in life. “Stop and smell the roses” may be a cliché, but new research suggests it's sound advice for finding satisfaction in life. Instead of rambling on about your horrible day, think about the small, pleasant things that made you smile. Was it that cupcake your friend gave you? Or the appreciative nod from a co-worker? Whenever you feel down in the dumps or stressed out, stop for a minute and think about anything that made you happy. Example: I had a horrible day! I have so much homework, a test coming up, and I almost failed an exam! On the other hand, my teacher praised me today for good work. Stopping and smelling the roses could also mean to not get so caught up in the worries and problems of life and take time to admire the simple beauty of nature and the simple everyday pleasures. Example: My boss wants me to drive a 5 hour trip to the city! On the other hand, the view sure is beautiful, and I've heard there are some pretty rose gardens along the way. Or if you are annoyed at doing something, think about the positive things that come with doing it. Example: Ugh! I am so tired and I would just like to watch some TV, but I have to take my dog for a walk. On the other hand, I do need some fresh air, and it's good exercise. Do it right now. Close your eyes and think about it! It can be anything from a smile to a special gift. It doesn't matter that the saying is cliche and hackneyed, it might just have a little truth. Sometimes a compliment, a praise, a smile or a hug makes your day. It does feel good when someone takes the time to tell you how much they appreciate you and care about you. So wouldn't make your day if you made someone else's day? I sure would feel great if I put a smile on someone's face when they're feeling upset. So next time someone seems annoyed, frustrated, hurt or bothered, try and cheer them up. Compliment a friend who's having a bad day. Hug a sibling who is dismayed. Share a piece of cake with someone who looks like they need some. Joke of the day Quote of the Day
For example a) write down your feelings and then tear the piece of paper up. It's a metaphor for letting go of your feelings or b) watch something funny or silly and laugh it out But there are times when you should cool down. Here are some ways. 1. Stop and think for a minute before you actually do what you are going to do. Know that you might regret it later on. 2. Hold all your anger in and find a place where you are alone. Then, let out your anger by punching a pillow or something. (Just be sure not to hurt yourself!) 3. Rant. Though this might not work for everyone, talk to a friend or family member and tel them about your day. Even though they might not care, you'll feel better. 4. We've all heard of the count to 10 rule. This doesn't really work for me, but maybe it will work for you? Just close your eyes, un-clench your fists, start taking deep breaths and count to 10. If you're still in a rage, go to a 100, even 200, as much as you need to until you calm down. So yeah, just chill when you're angry, and it will all work out fine. And one thing, don't freak out and destroy everything like this guy. :D Joke of the day Quote of the day
Today I have a guest post by Noor from A Little Bit Of Sunshine!
*applause* Visit her super fantastic blog:- http://www.alittlebitofsunshineblog.com/ Hello readers of the Violet Blogger! I’m Noor from A Little Bit of Sunshine and I’m so happy to be here today on this fabulous blog! Today, I’m going to be sharing with you a little writing encouragement post. I am a writer, and I am currently during NaNoWrimo where you have to write 50,000 words in the month of November, which is a lot. I’m here to help motivate you to keep writing your story, even though you might hate it because “Best advice on writing I’ve ever received: FINISH.” -Peter Mayl. When I write, I get stuck. Like really stuck. And then I go back and look over my writing, and I loathe it. And I want to delete it all. That is a major don’t. Never ever look back on your writing unless you are editing. And don’t edit while you write, because that slows down the process, a lot. What you are writing may suck right now, but leave that for the editor you to worry about. The writer you needs to finish this book. Finishing a book is an amazing feeling. I’ve written a book. It was 30,000 words long and really bad but it was a book. You put your hard work and effort into that book, even if the plot is horrible. You created something, you worked hard enough and pushed yourself hard enough. That takes guts, that takes patience. You can learn from finishing a book and editing it. You can learn things you did wrong, for your next book. And don’t tell me there won’t be a next book, because there will be. Writing is a drug, it sucks you in and takes you to another world, you need it, once you start, you will never stop. But remember, don’t rush through your book. Take your time (unless you have to write 50,000 words in a month, then don’t take your time.), feel the passion in the book. If you don’t want to write, don’t write, because chances are your writing will not have that passion either. Think about what’s it going to feel like once you have finished that book, and how proud you’re going to feel. Think about how thrilled you’ll be when you type that last word, and close your computer, sighing in relief. Think about that, and then keep on writing, so you’ll be able to achieve that. I have no documents in my “Ditched” folder on my computer, and I’m proud of that. Every writer should aim for that, because it’s important. Keep writing everyone, I believe in you. ~Noor Thank you so much for the amazing post! :)
Hello readers! I looked like this trying to figure out what to write --->
So, today I will be giving you step-by-step instructions on how to write! It can be anything, a poem, a story, an essay, whatever you'd like. The first part is to get prepared for writing! 1. Find a cosy, comfortable place with no distractions. 2. Get a pen and a writing pad, or use a word document to write. 3. Do this activity to get you in the mood to write- jot down the first 20 words that come to your mind. If you can, write more! Then, close your eyes and pick a few. Can you construct a short paragraph using these words? The next part is to get inspired! Here is how I get inspired. 1. Go to Google Images and type a random word. Scroll down and look at the pictures to spark your creativity. 2. Look around you. What's something that's really interesting? Find something that makes you think, "That's cool!" 3. Look at the time. Make a goal to only write for five minutes. Then open open your writing pad or word document and just write what comes to your mind. How do you feel? What interests you? What is something that you would read? After your time is up, look over what you have written and get inspired! Next, you need to write. 1. Try and write without any breaks in between. 2. Don't keep on going back to edit your work. Finish the whole thing, and then you can proofread it. 3. Keep a dictionary and thesaurus beside you so you can look up words. 4. Don't get discouraged if you think that yours is not good enough or like another person's writing. We all have our own style of writing. Write how you feel like writing, and don't copy someone's style. You're done! Proofread your work, edit it to make it better and smile! You've written your own piece of work! (And it's good!) Do you want to become a world-renowned poet some day? Or maybe you just want to try writing a poem to see how fun it is. Perhaps you’re just trying to write a poem for your English Homework. You probably just can’t find a type of poem that’s simple enough, but will leave a good impression. Well, your search has come to an end.
Hello there! Do you remember my previous post, Perky Poetry? http://thevioletblogger.weebly.com/blog/perky-poetry/ This post expands on it, showing you types of poems to write. Here are some types of poems you can write. They are all super fun to write and easy so before you know it, you’ll have a masterpiece of a poem in front of you. So grab a pen and a paper, and get started! ACROSTIC POEMS To write this kind of poem, you have to line up the words like this. D O G Now, write a short sentence/phrase after it, a bit like this. Disobedient at times, yet still devoted Obstinate pet that loves to go outside Good-natured Gentle Giant See? Not hard at all, and it really is fun. HAIKU POEMS These simple Japanese poems have only 3 lines, the first line with five syllables, the second with seven, and the third with five again. Here’s an example. The glowing sun sets Behind the fluffy white clouds As the moon rises It may be very long, but haikus leave a good impression on the reader and they are easy to write. FREESTYLE POEMS These are some of the best poems to write. There are no restrictions or any guidelines to follow, you just let your imagination run away with you. Here’s an amazing example I found on the Internet. Disappointments by Vivian Gilbert Zabel Every life has a room Where memories are stored: A box of special occasions here, Shelves of shared laughter there. But back in the shadows Lurks a trunk locked tight, Not to be opened and searched. |
